Life coaching for kids is a proactive approach to teach a set of skills to develop a mindset that helps them to be the leader of their own life. Life coaching allows kids to recognize the power of their thoughts to help them reach their full potential and cultivate happiness, confidence, self-esteem, resilience, and leadership. Life coaching for kids essentially equips them with a mental health toolbox to navigate the challenges of life effectively and reach their potential.

How is life coaching different than counseling?

Life coaching is not counseling and is not intended to take the place of counseling. Life coaching is different from counseling in that it works proactively before there has been an identified symptom in need of intervention. You can think of life coaches more like trainers, who help people grow in their strengths, rather than treat problems.

Life coaches are trained professionals, but they are not licensed professional counselors. Counseling is a more appropriate choice than life coaching for existing struggles with significant depression, anxiety, or mental health concerns. Life coaches do not provide therapeutic advice or guidance about mental health concerns, address trauma-related concerns or care, or provide any diagnosis. Life coaches cannot promise any existing behaviors or concerns will change, as the work is proactive learning and development rather than reactive or responsive care.

How do I know if my child would benefit from life coaching or counseling?

Before beginning life coaching, you will complete intake documents that will be reviewed to determine if your child is a good fit for coaching or if counseling would be a better route. You can feel safe knowing that if our coach determines at any point that your child needs counseling, your child will be immediately referred to counseling at Southern Breeze Counseling with a licensed professional counselor.
